Why I favourited the video — Andrew Weil, M.D. – Carbohydrate Considerations?
Because the basal ganglia system is an area of the brain that is responsible for many processes such as fear, anxiety, panic attacks, and other things.
What’s really great though is that by optimizing the functioning of the basal ganglia, things such as fear and anxiety can be decreased while at the same time things such as motivation and energy levels can be increased.
But how does one optimize the basal ganglia system?
By what and how you eat: It’s important that you have your hunger satisfied throughout the day by utilizing food that lasts longer in the body. That is why this video is so important.
Food that lasts longer typically doesn’t cause a jump in blood sugar levels. Remember how important it is to keep blood sugar levels as consistent as possible throughout the day?
In my opinion, a HEALTHY diet is one that is:
A. lower in carbohydrates (than the TYPICAL Western diet) – PARTICULARLY LOW IN CARBOHYDRATES WITH A HIGH GLYCEMIC LOAD,
and
B. lower in sugar.
C. Consumed more frequently throughout the day in lesser quantities
Check out the video for even more tips about carbohydrates and glycemci load.

I liked this video and suggestions. I certainly believe that genetics can be at play to a certain extent but that we can certainly influence genetic expressions for a positive outcome. I would submit that learned behaviours can be passed down through generations we can learn from our parents (and they from theirs and so on) such behaviours as expressiveness or inwardness. Regardless, though, as to whether genetics is responsible or socialization, I would agree that our patterns of behaviour such as the ones mentioned can be seen through our family line. I particularly appreciated the suggestion with respect to physical activity, i.e. one can have a catharsis [through sublimation we can redirect our anger (not exactly how it was phrased but I suspect Dr. Ahaddian uses a psychoanalytic approach at least in part)]. If more people heeded the advice about utilizing physical activity we’d certainly have a more active population which as we know is good for both mental and physical health. You can check out the video for more information. Tell me what you think about his perspective.

The following video from Dr. Andrew Weil is very informative and covers a range of things that we should all be including in our diet. Beyond this, there is an abundance of helpful information. One of the very powerful ways to be able to help our body and mind to deal with stress is to eat a healthy diet. It might sound basic but it is very true. Check out the following video.
